Loe Pool, Cornwall

Loe Pool, Cornwall

Loe Pool is located south of the bayside town of Porthleven. This was not in fact a lake, it was an inlet of Mount's Bay until the thirteenth century, when a sand bar separated it from the sea. Loe Pool has a classic beauty about it, but perhaps lacks the mysterious character of Dozmary Pool.

There are many who believe that Tennyson had Loe Pool in mind when he wrote his lines on Arthur's death. This is supported by his mention of Lyonesse as the site of the final battle of Camlann. Lyonesse is a legendary land off the tip of Cornwall that has since sunken into the sea. Loe Pool is close to the legendary Lyonesse area.
